King of Films

Guns, knives, eye stabbings, bludgeonings and brutal murders. Violence in films is usually considered distasteful and unnecessary to the enjoyment and plot line, but in Kingsman: The Secret Service, the use of blood and gore is transformed into an art that is extraordinary to watch.

Kingsman is a 2015 film directed by Matthew Vaughn and despite its many violent scenes is actually classified as a comedy. The film is set in Modern day London where a secret organisation called the Kingsman exists. It follows the story of Garry “Eggsy” Unwin, a drop out marine trainee, who is now unemployed and back living with his mother. However everything changes for Eggsy when he becomes one of the candidates for the newest Kingsman position.
17 years after the tragic death of his father, Eggsy finds himself needing to be bailed out of prison. Having no one else to call Eggsy rings the number on the back of a medallion he was given just after the death of his father. The person who comes to his rescue is a man named Harry Hart, who is a part of the secret service organisation known as Kingsman. This leads to Eggsy discovering both his father’s past and who the Kingsman are.
Meanwhile a man name Valentine is posing as a national threat, and with the recent death of one of the Kingsman a new recruit needs to be found. Each of the current Kingsman is to put forth a candidate, who must then undergo an intense elimination process. Hart chooses to put forth Eggsy and Eggsy, surprising himself, proves to be one of the best out of the candidates.
Eventually the group is narrowed down to just Eggsy and a girl named Roxy, but unfortunately for Eggsy he fails his last test and the position goes to his competitor.
Despite his failure Eggsy is still thrown into the crazy world of the Kingsman and becomes further entangled in the mission to stop Valentine. Their desperateness is reinforced when they witness what Valentines plan is and what it will mean for the world. Valentine, using mind control, is hoping to start a global battle that will result in only a few people still alive at the end.
However just when it matters the Kingsman start to fall apart, with many suddenly being killed and others turning out to be traitors. With only a few people left he can actually trust, Eggsy must find it within himself to become a Kingsman and stop Valentine before the pending pandemic starts.
Films featuring secret agents often feel a little over done or cliché, but Kingsman, is a refreshing addition to this genre. The addition of comedy and the brilliantly choreographed fight scenes make it a pleasure to watch. The film is full of action, fast paced and there isn’t a moment where you feel like ‘I wish this would hurry up and get to the next fight scene’, the plot line is captivating in itself.
The film is aimed at older teens and adults and is great for anyone who enjoys a comedy, action film or both. If you have enjoyed films such as The Bourne films, Bond films, Hot Fuzz and Guardians of the Galaxy, then you should definitely give Kingsman a watch.
